Seedlings Find Loving Home

Just a quick update to let you know that our first seedlings have been planted!

Viola tricolor, or heartsease, soaks up some welcome sunshine.

The day was cool and drizzly but it felt great to finally start planting. Calendula and onions (grown from seed by Hereford students), as well as donated heartsease, were each given their own bed in which to thrive.

Calendula officinalis in the "herb room" by the greenhouse. (See February post for more information on calendula's many uses).

Baby 'Jaune Paille des Vertus' onions have a lot of growing to do. (Also see same February post to learn something new about onions).

We also sowed seeds of salsify (Tragopogon porrifolius) and nutmeg plant (Nigella sativa) directly in the ground. Check back soon for their plant profiles.

Please note, the next workday will be this Saturday, April 16th, from 10-6. Hope to see you there!
